Nutmeg
Nutmeg smells warm, dry, and woody-spicy, with a dusty sweetness, a peppered edge, and the comforting depth of grated spice over cream or wood. It is less sugary than cinnamon and less sharp than clove, sitting in a handsome middle ground that feels elegant and lived-in. Nutmeg appears in spicy woods, orientals, fougères, amber fragrances, and some aromatic florals, adding warmth without taking over. It makes lavender richer and sandalwood more tailored. Nutmeg is beautifully used in Yves Saint Laurent Opium Pour Homme, where spice and amber meet polish, and in Jo Malone Nutmeg & Ginger, where the note shows its dry, crisp, quietly sensual side.
