We are likely to fall for any perfume that makes us quietly hum Serge Gainsbourg's song in our rather imperfect French (and there aren't nearly enough of those!). And, when the perfume is as stunning as Putain des Palaces -- well, what can we say? We are madly in love! **Putain des Palaces** opens like cool powder settling on bare skin: violet dust and a fine citrus spark appear at once, with no sugary prelude. After a few minutes it grows more tactile, and the rose feels less like a bouquet than a lipstick accord with a soft retro tint. The heart drifts into rice powder and suede, creating the impression of matte silk resting close to the body. In the drydown, warm amber and sandalwood bring roundness and a calm, slightly creamy warmth. Musk keeps the composition intimate, so it never shouts; it speaks like a lowered voice in half-light. The structure stays even and composed, moving clearly from dry powder to supple leather. This is a powdery scent that feels graphic, clean and distinctly modern rather than old-fashioned.
