Montale's Nepal Aoud is an amber-based composition, which promises a velvety amber-oud dry down. But like all Montale creations, this scent offers many twists along the way. It opens with a vibrant burst of Kashmiri saffron and Sumatran nutmeg. This transparent cloud of spice wafts above Nepalese oud. These radiant top notes infuse the Nepal Aoud's opening with excitement and energy - at the same time bracing, crisp, and dark. Gradually, it settles into a heart of golden amber tinged with a Bulgarian rose, sensual and soft. The amber gently blends into the soft base of Madagascar vanilla and white musk - no gourmand syrup here, just a gentle, comforting creaminess. A grounding accord of leather keeps Nepal Aoud balanced at all stages, neither too sharp at its top, nor too sweet at its base. After a few minutes it gathers itself into something denser, and a rose appears at the center—less powdery than wine-dark, with a soft velvet shadow. The oud here is not smoky or rough; it feels smooth and resinous, like dark polished wood. Amber brings a bodily warmth and ties the floral edge to the deeper woods. In the trail, the composition softens: sandalwood and leather add a creamy dryness, while white musk smooths the outline.
