Oud

Oud smells dense and resonant: dark wood, smoke, leather, resin, earth, and an animalic hum that can feel medicinal or sweet depending on the blend. Few notes create such instant atmosphere. Oud brings gravity, depth, and ceremonial richness, whether it is presented in a traditional style or cleaned up for Western tastes. It appears in oriental perfumes, rose-oud blends, leather fragrances, incense woods, and many powerful evening compositions. Some ouds are austere and inky; others are plush, ambered, and almost jammy with fruit or rose. Landmark examples include Dior Oud Ispahan and the polished Middle Eastern grandeur of Maison Francis Kurkdjian Oud Satin Mood.
