Frankincense

Frankincense smells cool and luminous at first, then resinous, peppery, and faintly citrusy, as if smoke rises through stone and sunlit air. There is a mineral dryness to it, but also a balsamic depth that feels meditative rather than heavy. It appears across incense, woody, amber, aromatic, and even some citrus compositions, giving them lift, solemnity, and space. Frankincense can sharpen florals, clarify woods, and turn simple freshness into something almost sacred. It is central to Comme des Garçons Avignon, a benchmark incense fragrance, and glows beautifully in Armani Privé Bois d’Encens, where resins and woods become smooth, austere, and quietly radiant.
