Styrax

Styrax smells resinous, smoky, leathery, and slightly sweet, like warm balsam, singed sugar, old wood, and the inside of a well-worn glove. It has a dark amber glow with a rough edge, and that tension makes it beautiful. Styrax appears in leather fragrances, incense perfumes, orientals, smoky woods, and vintage-leaning compositions that want drama and depth. It can thicken a base, deepen balsams, or give florals a shadowy underside. On skin, styrax often feels intimate and nocturnal, more ember than flame. Its mood can be found in the resinous darkness of Hermès Bel Ami and in smoky, classical leather constructions such as Chanel Cuir de Russie.
