Iris
Iris in perfume usually comes from orris root, and it smells like cool powder, suede, violet shadow, carrot, and pale butter. The effect is elegant and tactile, as if a fabric had a temperature. Iris can feel aristocratic, cosmetic, and aloof, or incredibly tender when softened by musk and woods. It appears in powdery florals, woody musks, lipsticky vintage styles, refined orientals, and many understated luxury scents. Iris does not fill the room; it creates a contour, a hush, a cultivated distance. Its finest showcases include the silvery makeup-case beauty of Prada Infusion d’Iris and the rich, buttery nobility of Dior Homme.
