Love, Don’t Be Shy Eau Fraîche — sugar on white petals
The floral tenderness here doesn’t melt into syrup, but holds itself in the cool light of neroli.
Love, Don’t Be Shy Eau Fraîche has a rare quality: it takes the recognizable sweetness of the original and seems to open a window in a room where, moments ago, there was a vase of white flowers and a saucer of airy marshmallow. This 2019 version, created by Calice Becker, sounds lighter, more transparent, yet loses none of its tactile softness.
The opening is bright, citrus-green. Neroli and orange blossom give off a clean, faintly honeyed radiance, while petitgrain brings a dry greenery, almost the crisp snap of a twig between the fingers. This top does not sparkle with coldness: it has a roundness to it, like warm morning light on white fabric.
At the heart, the fragrance gathers into a powdery-petaled cloud. Peony and freesia bring a damp, cool freshness; jasmine, a quiet creamy density; rose, a pink softness without any wine-dark shadow. Orris root works especially beautifully here: it never comes to the forefront, yet creates the impression of fine powder on the skin, an almost suede-like dryness that keeps the flowers from becoming overly sweet.
The base is what makes you want to remember this fragrance by your wrist. The marshmallow here is not sticky or confectionary, but airy, with a matte sugary surface. White musk and vanilla make the trail close to the body, warm and clean, while labdanum adds the faintest resinous shadow so that all this tenderness does not seem weightless.
This is not a fragrance about girlish frivolity, but about softness with character: white flowers, powder, marshmallow, and skin warmed from within. If you want to hear how sweetness can sound luminous and almost weightless, just let it unfold on the skin.
